Ottery has many literary connections and has been featured in books and films under various guises; Clavering St Mary in Thackery's "Pendennis" and Ottery St Catchpole in the "Harry Potter" Series, as the home village of the Weasley family. Rosamunde Pilcher films, shown in Germany throughout winter, attract many German visitors to Ottery to see the Parish Church where scenes from two recent television productions were filmed. The town is also the home of our most famous son, the poet and philosopher Samuel Taylor Coleridge, born in Ottery St Mary on 21st October 1772. Ottery offers something for everyone. With easy access to the pleasures of East Devon and beyond, it provides a splendid base to stay whilst enjoying the delights of the area. In Ottery, a warm welcome awaits you - explore the town with its delightful shops and reminders of its history at every turn. Call in at the information centre for enquiries; we will be delighted to see you.
